Kawana Region
Kawana/Maroochydore region is currently experiencing a significant amount of growth with a wide array of infrastructure being developed over the next few years including:
- Sunshine Coast University Private hospital with 250 beds was completed ahead of schedule and opened on the 4th November 2013.
- Sunshine Coast University Public hospital with 450 beds initially approved completed April 2017 - will increase to 738 beds by 2021. This will also incorporate a Skills & Academic Research Centre. Qld Health are expected to recruit around 2500 new staff to the district with more than 3500 staff in total. It is anticipated that there will be around 15,000 visitors to the health precinct each day.
- Oceanside Town Centre next to the Sunshine Coast University Hospitals with 32,000m2 of allied health services, specialist hospital facilities, health accommodation and health related research, education and training facilities.
- 140 room Aged Care Facility and 150 retirement apartments at Oceanside Retirement Village.
- $347M upgrade to Sunshine Coast Airport.
- $350M Sunshine Plaza shopping centre expansion
- On-going development of the new Maroochydore CBD, SunCentral.
Kawana region is also home to:
- Sunshine Coast Rugby League headquarters
- Stockland Stadium
- International Rowing / Kayak Course
- Auto General Insurance office with approximately 250 staff
